These tracks, they’d claim, are works of imagination – tales of cruelty, tragedy, murder and betrayal, all populated by gamblers, sinners, infidels and travelling salesmen (read: wandering musicians).
That’s hardly surprising because, in a way, every song penned by The Weeping Willows is a love song. But listen a little harder and you’ll hear that the record is filled with that all of that wonder, magic and joy of which Nick Cave speaks. Recorded in Los Angeles with multiple Grammy winner, Ryan Freeland and a small cast of players hand-picked to leave all the right gaps and spaces, this record should be received as a mature, melancholic sequel to their debut. I’m a little cautious about the roster of characters expanding again but intrigued too. I’d like to get deeper into the mythology of the place and the background of the world. This book demands your attention.ĭespite not zipping through the graphic novel I certainly enjoyed it. I think that speaks to how packed it was and how you can’t really casually flick through the graphic novel if you’re tired. I read the 104-paged hard back in three doses. I didn’t whiz through The Weirding Willows. That said, given some old favourites appear in The Weirding Willows as baddies or makers-of-mistakes it does lend itself to wishing everyone just get along and work it out.
With a variety of enchanting pets for you to befriend and train, you’re sure to find just the right help completing quests for the land’s amusing inhabitants Garden, bake, and create clothing and bouquets with.

I’m not sure the humans do very in the book especially the older ones. Whereas you might worry slightly about the added complexity of a new character, if even just a cameo, but there’s always the delight in seeing the new character brought to life. Equally, those iconic characters which have had memorable films (or animations) look as you would expect. With a variety of enchanting pets for you to befriend and train. You’ll recognise characters you may only have read about in books from how they look in this graphic novel. Crossing out of The Weirding Willows as one of these animals is a bad idea. It is only in The Weirding Willow that the animals retain their human-like characteristics. The portals are collected in the area of The Weirding Willows. I wouldn’t call it a “core thread” but this introduction to The Weirding Willows introduces us to the mythology. Another of these core threads is a purple dinosaur. One of these core threads is the relationship between Alice and her (no spoilers) surprise choice of father. The story is a little busy with so many characters but the core threads are strong and easy to follow.

I’m not sure why but many “grown up Alice in Wonderland” comic books take a certain adult spin on the story.
